SourceSafe is used by many organizations around the world as a key tool in their development process. However, one of SourceSafe's primary weaknesses is remote access. Since SourceSafe is designed around Windows network file sharing, rather than a client/server architecture, remote access can be painfully slow and the possibility for database corruption is high.

VssConnect was designed to overcome these shortcomings, providing a low cost solution to remote SourceSafe access. VssConnect consists of an easy to install and manage server component and remote clients which communicate with the server using a standard TCP protocol.

Visual Studio Integration - VssConnect integrates with Visual Studio 6/2002/2003/2005 and other products that support the MSSCCI standard.

No IIS Required - VssConnect does not require Microsoft Internet Information Server as it is implemented as a stand alone server. The server can be configured to use HTTP or a proprietary TCP based protocol for greater speed.

Command Line - Primary source control operations are accessible using the VssConnect command line to enable scripting.

Cost Effective - You spent money for each SourceSafe license so you don't want to spend a lot more for remote access. VssConnect is competitively priced at $50 or less, for each client license. The server is free of charge so you can buy as many licenses as you need and add more at a later date.
